Trouble loading custom bot names

The only downside of using a .pk3 is that clients will get a message saying it's required - not mandatory to download, but still, the message shows up if auto-download is disabled.
It's not a real problem, but it's worth mentioning.
The development folder .pk3dir is not downloaded by the client, since .pk3 files are usually downloaded.
Yes, it really is annoying when your folder accumulates a bunch of garbage. Try this method then:

But the question still remains - why doesn't the script load from the config?
Option #2 - create a regular folder inside the excessiveplus folder with any name, but with the extension .pk3dir at the - zzzz-names.pk3dir and create the scripts folder there in the same way, inside which bots.txt will be located. Advantage - it is read without archiving into a .pk3 file. Disadvantage - the priority between the zzzz-names.pk3dir folder and the zzzz-names.pk3 file will be towards the .pk3 file. Therefore, as soon as you go to a server with custom bots and download such a file, your bots will be read before this file and you will not understand why your bots do not work.
I think there is sense in such a method, so that players don’t download .pk3 files with bot names:
1. Create a separate Quake folder for the server with clean files again. This should not be for your online game, but purely for the server. So that nothing except the excessiveplus modification is downloaded, due to the fact that downloaded .pk3 files with names take priority over the .pk3dir folder.
2. The file zzzzz-gravityrailer007.pk3 that you downloaded – unzip it. The folder name should turn out as zzzzz-gravityrailer007.pk3dir
3. Put zzzzz-gravityrailer007.pk3dir into the excessiveplus folder

The reason I brought it up in the first place is because I know for sure that Elitez DM17 works exactly like that - with custom bot names loaded without using any .pk3 files. I believe Fubar can confirm that.
I remember that when there were experiments on DM17*ELITEZ* with adding new maps, then new maps were downloaded not to the excessiveplus folder, but to beseq3, perhaps custom DM17*ELITEZ* bots are there. But I may be wrong. Correct me if someone is absolutely sure.
Although, searching for .pk3 files in baseq3 did not give me phrases like:
funname ^0Magneto
or
Magneto
It is really better to let Fubar say that.
All my maps are in /baseq3
Bot files are in /excessiveplus
one for Carnage and one for DM17

Did you change the names of the bots in the .pk3 file or do you have a .pk3dir folder or did you run a separate bots.txt file?

Do you mean there is an old engine file like quake3e.x64 from 2006, or an old version of the Excessive Plus modification itself, before flags and the like appeared?

I always looked at this figure and didn't understand why I wouldn't update the engine from 2006 to the latest, but it turns out that nuances like bots.txt are starting to emerge. I never connected these two facts.
One head is good, but several at once, like Zmey Gorynych, are better)
The collective mind decides. Thank you)
