pc problem!

OK i need some pro help here, my friend got a computer from a another friend, its a AMD 1500+ with 256 ram and Radeon 7000 VE 64MB 120GB hdd. And it runs on Win2000
And ofcourse im pushing him to play quake3 e+, I installed it, but it lags like HELL, 15fps all the time sometimes 40 only when small room and no actions. i lowerd picmip to 10 but it wont help
And imo this kinda comp should run q3 smooth as hell on 125 fps. So i think it must be another problem
The graphic card is pretty old though with the latest catalyst drivers installed.
any suggestion?

I dont know win2k well, it looks like the gfx engine uses the cpu only to render?!
I played q3 on PII 400 MHZ with S3 Trio(!), it ran well.
My solution is to install winxp, and give a try.

Check if something is running in the background, or if there is a virus, that was my problem, i had a ton of programs running in the background

i have played quake before on an 1ghz 32mb graka laptop with win2000 and it runs i think this pc is a wormcage 
or something like this just put on kaspersky or something and check it carefully i think u will find many oldshool trojans and so on 
i think u could have same trojan like me cause i have had the same problem with 2000 its a 2000 worm it installs a filezillaserver and ..... the rest i think u could think ur own

ye but if the pc was not formated the friend which has the pc before have had i-net on it but when u say u have formated mhhhhhhhh then perhaps there are wrong or old driver from the graka and perhaps the gamesettings are too high ? but i cant belive that there must be something else ..... :-k
perhaps the hardware is not really compatible with itself ? i have had such a pc too where are good hardware in it but the pc sux more that 300ghz cause the graka wasnt really compatible with the board so perhaps there is the mistake ?? perhaps wrong cpu/hdd/graka/board/ram ?
mhh but i have at the moment no idea how too check this ](*,)
perhaps ur friend must bring the pc too a little pc-store where they can help him (if the pc wasn fallen down from a truck 
)

I am systems engineer, PRO. Win 2000 OS is memory eater. It is worstest Microsoft OS. Upgrade RAM on 512 kb, and kill that shit, then clean install XP.

looool the only thing i can say for that is :salute: man u are system engineer ?
then u wouldnt talk such bullshit soz its not against u just against ur words man xp has over 1200 bugs and 2000 ?? how much bugs has 2000 ? and the trojans/virus for xp if u havent newest service pack omg they will fuck u in the ass. 
after linux-i386 win2000 is the system which is the best one with only 150 bugs or so i guess and it doesnt cost much ram or anything :roll: and iam no system engineer and if u are one u would see the things little bit diffrent than that
cause then u would say he should install linux or leave 2000 but no xp man lol xp increases much much much more ram then 2000

no trojans, just formated it, installed win2000, cause he didnt have winxp
but i know it is a shit load of things in the system tray ,hehe didnt even think of it, i will try and see if it gets better
