But this technology makes ssd writes/reads slower. And price of ssd is still senseless. Two fast discs in raid is still better solution than ssd.

not really Winking

first of all ssd have access time less than one ms (in case of sata it's around 14ms) seeing the difference? at the point ssd is 140 times faster than any sata disks.

second thing intel ssd have around 210MB/s
for comparing the best sata disk have 120MB/s

Seagate's new sata 3 2 tb hdd has 600 MB/s, so fuck ssds Happy

its theoretical data speed (based on data limit of SATAIII interface). In fact normal 7200rpm hdd cant read or write more than 100MBps. So there is not difference between ATA133, SATA, SATAII or SATAIII. Its like if you drive old car on highway. Your car maximum is for example 180KM/H but max. speed limit on highway is 250KM/H. Your car wont go faster if youre on highway with speed limit 250, 300 or 500KM/H cos your car cant go more than 180KM/H.

u know that 600MB/s is a maximum of sata 3 standard but not the real read speed of hdd?

for that hdd score in hdtune is 112MB/s

double check anything before u write something Winking

It depends - what HD and a controller on motherboard. If we take the SAS HD and the motherboard for the server - then the rate of exchange between HD and the controller to 2370 MB \ s.

SSD today the fastest - on bus PCI-e, although there is a SATA drive 3. Read speed = 800Mb \ s, write = 600 Mb \ s.

as i said it above

if you want to get a drive that is fast now and very slow after, then go and buy a ssd Now!... im sure you'll say "ssd sux" after a while (a few months depending on how much the disk is used).. if not the wait until the new gen of ssd are coming.

and the hdd tech.. now is old & mechanical no matter what kind of technology is used SATA I,II,III, IV ATA ..

Well, server side HDD are nice Winking
I'm waiting for hybrid systems using both SSD and HDD. But I prefer to wait for prices to low and technologie to be better.

SSD is a memory. Memory is error correcting (for servers- FB DIMM ECC). The same memory is used in expensive ssd. is such and can be used in servers. They can be used for very long.

This is not entirely correct. If you tend to run Windows 7 with an SSD then such problems will not occur anymore due to the TRIM function integrated in Win7. Most SSD's nowadays are TRIM compatible or even some older ones became compatible via firmware updates. I have been using Windows 7 with an SSD for over a month now and during my latest test, the read/write speeds are the same as on day 1. Of course I will redo them in another 2-3 months and so on. But atm things look good and TRIM seems to be doing its job as it should. My next purchase will be a larger, next gen SSD probably this summer-autumn.

Even if you're running XP some manufacturers offer "Wipers" which basically do what TRIM does in Win 7, but it's manual and you have to run it yourself every x time.
