will changing your ingame refreshrate effect your frame rate as well? and most monitors I know of have a max refresh rate of 75mhz so wouldn't the default setting of "0" (unlimited) be defeated by the max refresh rate of the monitor and how would you be able to override beyond the 75mhz monitor refresh rate (if possible at all)?
btw, my problem I stated earlier must have been a q3 issue not a hardware issue because I think I figured out some of it.

Well, i have no clue. I recently reinstalled my old drivers, and it seems this error dosen't occur on either the new or old ones, ever since i twinked my card with rivatuner. 
Perhaps my error was of a different nature, that's why it helped...? Best explanation i can put out, i'm afraid.

Ehm, many monitors support refresh rates higher than 75, for example, my trusty old medion something or other, supports up to 85. I wouldn't recommend, however, setting your refresh rate above the safe maximum for the model you're using, it can fuck it up. And as far as i know, refresh rate dosen't have any effect on the framerate whatsoever.

I had a problem simular to that I think. But my problem was the OS and I think the gfx card was overheating, not sure though. I solved it by changing my config around to get the worst visuals and than gradualy make them better over time. Not sure if it'll work for you, my problems were connecting to a server, the sound and what was on the screen just froze, and i heard an awful sound. It didnt resolve after a few seconds, i had to shut the computer down and restart.
Try checking your drivers and stuff.

lol ye but perhaps u should read whole thread next time and not only first post, we talked in more posts about driverstuff and if you would have readet only a bit of that u would know that your answer is much more then senseless, thx anyway

ye so u wanna tell me that my Radeon x1600pro (512mb) with arround 50° GPU is overheating and/or settings from my quake are to much on quallity ? ... man fact is that your problem definitely isnt like mine, it has its reason why in topic stands smth from refreshrate stuff ... iam very sure it is about that ... how said if you would have readet all carefully then this answer wouldnt stand there like that.
