I wrote something here but forget it, it's not worth it. Just this one thing i said that i want to keep:

If you have a problem/suggestion/idea/whatever about anything concerning the mod/community/members/whatever or the forum you'll have to be precise about it. General comments/ideas/suggestions/problems/whatever, good or bad, are not helpful for any kind of improvement. Be precise and thorough to achieve an actual outcome. Unless the reason is just to whine.

--edit--

Very belated edit: It's like reporting a bug and saying "Um, it was in this map with the big statue and then i got the flag and then um and then i run and then um i got killed and um then the flag wasn't there. Bug?!?!11!" This crap would get deleted on most communities (cpma anyone?). Same thing goes for everything. Be precise to achieve something.

Few messages of this kind in a row = Flamewar.

pretty obvious that the problem comes when someone says something, not meaning it as an insult, and the reader (or the addressee) takes it as an insult. what does the mod do then? Happy. (just as a btw, wikipedia isn't perfect, not anything near it. while its a very good source of information, i would suggest u take anything resembling a judgement from wikipedia with a big huge grain of salt).

anyways. just wanted to say that if i were a mod, i would start actively editing posts instead of locking topics. simply put, rather than locking a topic which has gone to a "flame-war" however u define it, u just edit out the personal insult part of every single post. and put a huge "THIS POST HAS BEEN EDITED - whatever reason blah blah" sign on it.

just as another btw, i see a lot of people who dont like "flamers", but i dont see too many people who pay attention to "flamee"s, by which i mean folks who're just waiting for someone to criticize them and immediately take anything said against their opinion as personal insult. both types of folks are equally stupid.

A banana has been edited into this post by a moderator. Feel the pain!

EDIT by poster: there we go. wasnt so tough now was it? Big grin $$$$$$$$$

I will allow ANYTHING that isnt violating common netiquette and isnt flames, even if they're "civil" (civil flames? lol).

That sentence is really saying it all isnt it? These forums are not yours to "allow" anything in, they are not yours at all. You are supposed to remove/lock posts/threads that are breaking forum rules, and to move posts that are in the wrong topic. Anything else you do is out of line. These forums are property of the e+ team and the community and you have been trusted to make sure they follow the rules. End of story

(IMO) <-- Better put that in all my posts I suppose.. Happy

P.S flames cant be civilized? Is it uncivilized to get angry and say it? I am pretty sure I have done it, and you have done it too in Real Life and noone has locked you out or gagged you because of it?

BS

A flamewar can also be a very heated discussion. Delibately hostile and insulting is not a flame, its a BAD flame. A good flame is hostile and insulting only if you are smart enough to read between the lines.. Happy

I'm sorry mate, but you are not the one to tell me that. I have people above me who are keeping me in line. Anyway, anything i do is according to both - guidelines set by my superiors, and to forum rules. So as you can see, i'm not being out of line. Happy

Nope. They are the property of the e+ team, period. They were given for use to the community, not given to the community to do as it wants with them.

Exactly what i'm doing.

So you always insult people when angered? You have an interesting way of dealing with your emotions, then. Tongue Seriously tho, i always try to make sure that when i do insult someone on purpose, there is a very solid reason to do so.

What i'm looking to eliminate here, are insults which are barely justified, or not justified at all or simply primitive ("Fuck you cocksucker!"). Justified insults, if not too extreme, in some cases will be allowed, as i said before.

And please, dont compare real life to internet forums. It's just... silly. Happy

Bah, I am not "telling" you anything, I am having an opinion (as marked in my post).

Forums are here FOR the community, and what is IN it is the property of the community.

And, before I went to bed I realized that I must have sounded harsher than intended in my posts. I am sure you mean well and that you are a better moderator than most MAD, I just HATE censorship.

IMO a good moderator is a moderator you dont notice.

And no, I dont run around insult people when I get angry. Actually I read my post (quoted) a couple of times and I dont see me saying that I insult anyone in it? I do speak my mind though. If someone would tell me that I wasnt allowed to do that, I would probably go to insults. (actually I probably would not, but I wish I would)

Yes, good. But do it when it happens, not when you think it might happen.

And, flames in mow's defenition are not needed on forums and good riddance. IMO a flamewar is a heated discussion. And reading a GOOD flamewar is like watching a tennismatch Happy

Why not do like most gaming communities? Have a flame section on the forums. When a discussion gets out of hand move it to the flame section...

Moderators on flame sections can keep the racism and kiddiepr0n and whatnot away from there and leave the rest alone. Simple. You may choose to visit and read, or choose not to.

Insulting in a good way, Laughing

Insulting is Insulting, it is offense against someone with the goal to descredit someone, otherwise it wouldnt be called "insulting".

If u call someone a "moron", it is bad, whatever u wrote supersmart above the moron or below. And if u write an insultive sentence without using insulting words, it is the same for me, it shows me just that that person is not able to discuss in a respectfull and constructive way.

U can discuss heated for sure, but just because u cant use emotions on a forum, there is no reason to use any insultiv way.

And ur "BS" doesnt suit in anyway.
