first of all MSI make great VGA's its experenced producer, they have awsom MoBo's and VGA's

second one X800GT here is best choice, have posibility to unlock 8pipes adn become X800XT i do not must say what hapens then....

alredy i haved 3 gf6600GT and they are notcomparable with toy im hawe, damn slow comparing to VGA from sygn. and graphic looks way beter on ATI, ATI is suporting standards that this 6600GT will never suport just try to watch some high res wmv movie u be know about what im talking, or just watch how graphic is displayed on TV, on almoust all ATi VGA's u can find chips that accelerate video standards and improve quality, NV dont have thats gifgts

FX series was realy poor i will not recomend that iven to mine worst enemy....

in poland X800GT and 6600GT cost almoust the same so im dont seying reason why to buy somthing worse Confused

on 6600GT u will not run hdr or sm3 or u like to play games on 10fps so choice is only one for me

and about that NV VGA's own ATi its total BS, ATi was long time before enybody heard enything about NV company, ATi chips supot MPG2 on old PCi VGA's i wold say martox and ati owns all NV carts and that is more ture if we will not count preformance, betvern NV and ATi products preformance is randomly depends on what u will test them, loking form the hardware side architecture of ATi's gpu's are much advenced than on NV VGA's dont be reamaining other stuf what u have on ATi PCB

If we r talking AGP and u r looking for a cheap gfx upgrade while perhaps svaing up for a bigger hardware upgrade (mobo with support for PCI-E, SLI, DDR2 and stuff like that) and u dont play Doom3 much I would go for a Nvidia 6200. Its like a 70 euro investment. Pass on the 5xxx series.

BUT... have in mind, November 14 is closing in Happy

Ohh, ofcourse...

what about a GeForce FX5500 256mb AGP? Is that a good card?

I bought a ASUS N6200 (AGP Skull, 350 mhz NO FAN = do not overclock untill u atleast have one installed, Tv-out + DVI) for my kid and he is quite satisfied (used to have a FX5500 and complained about it very often, now he is quiet Happy )
He runs this on his P4@2,8 GHz, AGP Skull with 768 mb ram.
The 6200 is supposed to be more than twice as fast as the 5700 and I do believe, after seeing the difference (5500->6200) in a single machine, that it actually could be true!
(I recently have seen prices as low as 543 SEK/~60 euro for a 6200).

Two things to have in mind wich are soon coming up:
Q4
Dual core on a single graphiccard (currently under development by Asus)

LOL, i think performance really depends on the game you play.
For example sorry but in Doom3 no comparaison between a FX6OOO series and his equivalent model with ATI.
Same difference with hl² for ATI....

So i recommand to buy a LE model of the last series of each one nvidia or ati (6800/X800) because all series have the same processor (construtors will never change processor for each model cause of production cost) and you can overclock it (better overclocking for nvidia) or change bios (u can have a X850 XT with only a X800) and then you will have good performance and you will keep your card for a long time Happy

@iz, asus alredy relase that VGA its damn expensive and it was only 2k VGA's u will be glad if u ben had eny posibility to but at all that expensive monster Winking

@bodz

FX series are not 6xxx, 6xxx its new series of chipset and much they used in that chips methods almoust same as ATi was uisng cose FX series was a disaster for NV company, technic implemented in R300 to R360 gpu's crush all NV VGA's,

6xxx series is good in preformance, but older and weeker VGA's like 6600 ald older 6800 have no suport for high res movies, but NV forget maint that to thier customers Winking on all ATi VGA's u have suport for that and other accelrator implemented, quality chips DVD decoders ect ect Happy

if comes to buy VGA for doom3 engine games it be 6xxx or 7xxx cose thier are faster, Nv and ID/Ubisoft work together so the game run beter on NV products

almoust all others games will be faster on ATi products, if ATi dont relase neew gpu NV will dominate market, thier 6xxx series is prety good, but ATi dont have VGA that can fight against gf GTX, well some games run almoust with same preformance on X850 and GTX but that is another story Winking NV atm is a lider in technic, but if ATi relase thier gpus in 0.9 with 24 and 32 rendering pipes they will smash all over market, these gpu's will can be working withnout eny troubles at 800MHz and that means they will fill twice more poligons that gf GTX can do Winking

@bodz once again why u recomend LE series?, in all thers VGA's u have locked pipes by hardware u cant unlock them Happy and do u know what these leters means??? LE, they will put to these VGA's low level memory, cheap memory... to reduce overal price of VGA, with low level memory VGA lose all thier magistrale badwitch, and that means it will be slow like turtle on highway

ATI gives its users headaches and really suck in stability, even random lockups is part of using an ATI card. Fast Write, Refresh rate problem with XP so so..

Esp the combination of VIA chipset and ATI is kinda disaster, in most cases.

I still remember, in 2003 I guess, Max Payne couldnt be played on certain levels with ATI cards! So we, as ATI users, had to look for save games to skip those levels and carry on..

If your curious get the full list of games that had real problems! Im pretty sure one can found hundreds there.
They update drivers almost ever month. They have to. But when it comes to Linux: nothing.

I agree that ATI are good at performance issues tho. Well what I say is not kind of fanatism, but what I personally had on my desktop/laptop systems + real disappoting impressions from ATI users.

Fact: in 2004, more ATI graphics cards sold than Nvidia.

- "refresh rate problem" ?
- "via + ati = disaster" ? + unplayable in maxPayne?
- problem with stability cuz ATi VGA's Shock

plis find some real accusations.....

- problem with refres rate are the same on NV or ATi cuz its is problem with XP os not VGA's

- funny shit going here im complited maxPeyne several times on mine 8500pro on kt133a (VIA) withnout eny problems Shock damn miracle Winking

some bugs in games exist and the producers make bugfixes for games or for drivers, that is bad?
and that problem touching boutch sides, read some raports
