I really only use IRC and MSN for text chat. Pretty much every computer I've touched has MSN installed [Really? Not here. I'm working on at least 5 different PC's every week, fewest have MSN installed and what's with IRC? Btw, Miranda is running on your USB device as well Winking ] so it's just convenient to use that, and IRC can be accessed on some nice websites plus at home I have mIRC set up exactly as I want it in nnscript. So while I've tried some other stuff I never got hooked, just because I don't need support for stuff I don't use and mostly they don't support exactly the stuff I already have/want/am familiar with. [have: for sure Miranda supports the stuff you already have, if not it's probably a plugin which is already in development progress; want: what the fuck do you want more?Happy There are dozens of interesting plugins, I'm personally trusting in 30+ of them; familiar with: you are not that old yet and probably able for some more brain-input, just give it a try man ;)] If I hadn't used mirc and msn since the last millenium, and/or if I used more programs, and/or if these hybrid chat programs actually had something really useful that the "normal" ones didn't, [oh, believe me, they have. Pls do me the favor and browse the plugins thread or click through the hot topics at miranda site. I promise that you will be amazed about what Miranda is able to do] then maybe I'd consider it but as none of those are true at the moment, it just seems like a pointless and unneccessary change. [Blah, blubb...nah. But it's ok for me if somebody says that, which never dealed with the monster among the multi-messengers]

And I'm too faithful to change some things x) I've continuously said fu to stuff like gmail when it was released since I've always used hotmail and it's worked without problems for equally long, and lookie lookie we've got an inbox of 2gb or something now too, still far earlier than anything like that is close to needed.

Bottom line - need a good reason to change [You are probably the best reason, not to change. It's late and maybe I've read over something. But did you actually give Miranda a try? If not your hard words sound kinda ignorant for me], and "it's different" is not a good reason [that's a good reason imo. I for myself wouldn't try to explain the vantages to too critical persons either, it's simply not worth the time. Still the statement "it's different" is way too trivial, but the miranda community is very helpful concerning support questions. You'll get answers for all your questions there.], nor the possibility to do stuff that I'm not interested in, nor "it's not micro$oft!!!". But to each his own, and it's great for people who actually benefit from them that the programs exist Thumbs down [Let's hope so, by goodness!:thumbleft: ] .

Btw: I voted for "no idea" since I'm using MSN via Miranda (oh wonder). Sadly there is just 1 vote reserved for me, so: no idea

Honestly, feels like you didn't really read what I said or viewed it from the completely wrong angle Tongue

That is EXACTLY why I was very, very careful with saying "every computer ->I've<- touched, shame it was a wasted effort Tongue I'm not ranting pro-anything (like most of you to be honest), NOR anti anything (hence my closing sentence to the original post). I'm strictly talking about my choice and why, which I believe was the topic.

Totally misunderstood what I said Tongue My whole post is about NOT needing any extra blablabla and the first thing you say is how it has everything and you use 30+ plugins, gg Winking I am not even talking about plugins because it's all useless for me. Just plain layout, I have something that has looked the same for many years, and no other program looks exactly the same. Now, although I doubt it, it might be possible to configure some other program to look and behace exactly the same, but why, oh why, would anyone want to do that Big grin Would be the epitome of wasted energy.

Although I promise that you're wrong in that I'd be "amazed", I have no doubts that it can do anything but wipe my ass for me. It's all good and you may advertise this as much as you want, but don't direct it at me because I don't need it and that's both the only thing I've said, and my only point Happy

I've tried most of them. Again, the context says all the stuff is useless if you don't need and/or want it, not that nobody will find it useless, so don't make it sound like you take it personal (as I'm sure you don't, either).

Yeah if it's late and you don't read properly, don't toss words like "ignorant" around please. I just make unneccessarily harsh replies then.

I can't even see a single "hard word" in my post. Did I (basically) say "I don't need those programs and am therefore not interested or impressed"? Yes. Did I as much as imply that this goes for everyone else? No. I really, really did everything I could to make this clear throughout the entire post, but it wasn't enough :'(

Didn't understand... I'm saying, "it's different" is not a good reason to change, nothing more, nothing less. If it's different in a good way then of course it's a reason, but changing only because it's different is what I'm talking about and the reason I mention it is because some people actually do. Not because it's better, but just because it's different. And if it's unclear, I'm not talking about any specific program, or even neccessarily a program at all. It's like using Linux instead of Windows. If you do it because you think Linux is better - FINE. But FACT: Some people don't use it because it's better, they don't even know in what way it is better and they don't do anything that benefits from it, they just use Linux to be different from the larger amount of Windows users - THAT is what I am calling a bad reason and I hope it makes sense.

There \Wave If I came across too harsh somewhere I apologize and blame that I just woke up and we're even x) Now excuse me, I'm off to masturbate to more StarCraft 2 footage Big grin
Peace

1) about MSN: There ARE good and better messengers. Some features are useful to all. Like batching many messages in a row from the same user (i don't think msn has that)

2) about Linux: Sure some start using it for the wrong reasons, but all who actually used it know why it's better. No need to go deeper. If you use it you'll see the 40% better performance and all the rest that comes along with it ;] Also, you might want to read the license of Windows (any version) and the license of any Linux distribution, you'll see a clear difference. Then again, you might enjoy having only certain rights on the product you paid good money for. Next time you buy a pizza, you'll have a license to eat it, you won't own it ;;;]

-----

Anyway, don't mind all the above, the bottomline is that in the computer world (software), there IS better and worse and there IS useful and useless. If you gave it a try and saw that it's not better or useful, for you, fine. If not, then... It's the need for something "new" that moves the world [edit: and yourself of course] forward ;]

Actually i did read it but i didn't really understand it. I read your opinion and i respect it. However, the "FACT" you gave about Linux was simply wrong.

What's to keep in my message is this:

"If you gave it a try and saw that it's not better or useful, for you, fine. If not, then... It's the need for something "new" that moves the world [edit: and yourself of course] forward ;]"

which shows that i totally agree with you, IF you actually tried other messengers. New != better. edit: and of course different != better ;]

Please tell me exactly what is wrong with it. I try to always write in a way that makes misunderstanding very hard, but in some way people always find a way regardless. So read my "FACT" about Linux again, and go ahead telling me what is wrong with my statement. Congratulations in advance if you manage, because I wouldn't have said it if I didn't have concrete examples of people that I know doing this very thing. Yes, most people should know what's good about Linux when they've used it and then have a good reason to do so, but I haven't disputed this. Some people simply change for no reason at all except changing (even if it's for the worse), some people listen to black metal instead of pop because of no conscious reason other than "uuhh fuck mainstream! i'm trve".

You can't say I'm wrong and that's what pisses me off; when people do it anyway Tongue If I am wrong, fine, but if I am not wrong, not fine. I HATE when people read something else than what I write, because I spend time and care on most posts and hate to see it completely wasted.

You even say you agree with me, and I agree with you and lemlin on many cases, the only fucked up thing is how you both write as if I've ever said anything else Tongue

Now we are off topic \Wave

Bottom line: Use what the fuck you want, I do and I explained MY choice and reason and it really should not go further than that considering the topic. As I said in the post I removed, "carry on"...
