I need some help. I don't like the stupid old "straight" rail, i would like the spiral previously seen in CPMA, Quake 2, or Quake 4 if you play any of them, but the problem is, everyone is telling me to type in console "/cg_oldrail 1 or 0", people say 0 works, NEITHER OF THEM DO! I would like the spiral rail, and if anyone can help me fine ANY way to do this, I will totally appreciate it. Thanks.

thats zzzrail.pk3 or something, but apparently its been associated with cheats.. You wont be able to use it on pb or pure servers. gl

whoa....my rail is straight...but i remember it kept me up for a while...pmans rail isnt straight at all its swirly...i tought i did something but i cant remember what i did to make it swirly...ask jake to send u a copy of his cfg

well, pure doesnt kick you for it, nobody doubt that, but it does not work on pure server as long this file is not on the server, too.
everybody should also know, that pb doesnt kick you for default for the file, but serveradmin can make that u get kicked for this by just adding this file as cvar to his pb config.
however, have fun with ur "cool" file, as long it is just that. Just wanted to clear that 2 points.

what are your other rail settings?
r_railSegmentLength
r_railCoreWidth
r_railWidth
these may be where your adjustment needs to be made.

This skin SUCKS. And as someone said, it doesn't work in pure servers, but I still want the spiral rail. Impulse'Dvinsk told me that Drone, or Penguin Man's rail trail was spiral, but his computer crashed and as soon as he reinstalled Q3 again it was normal... I'm still searching with no luck so if anyone has found anything by now.. please help..

I used that raileffect.pk3 file for some weeks...and on some servers effect was ON and on some it was normal default rail....depends on server settings, yes.
I think its the same file as in post above so I wont post it...but that made my rail "spiral"...to be more precise, its normal rail effect with a "moving" spiral around it on each rail shot.
Its cool when U play for fun, but I don't recommend it for CW's or 1v1 since its blocking the view on some tiny distant targets.

HAHA, I figured out what I could do to make my rail trail spirally like Q2, its a extra pak file, but it doesnt get you kicked from pure servers, and pb doesnt detect it, so its just like a weapon skin... if you're wondering it is called raileffect.zip. I will attach it so you can use it and you can use the regular commands like /color1 and /color2 and all the other rail commands, and it looks GREAT!!! thank you for all of your help guys I really appreciate it. If you don't know how you just extract to baseq3 folder in the Quake III Directory.
PS: People think that this file makes your game laggy, it doesn't.
