r_picmip 0 - 8 doesn't really affect enemy visibility in my opinion. A value of 0 is what I prefer simply because everything looks "sharper."

Dangerously cheesy.

The "sharper" look belong more to r_subdivisions (0-999 ; PB Ready : 0-80). I would play with 999 if I could but with PB I can only play at 80.

I am referring more to texture quality specifically, not r_subDivisions. And playing with 999 is a bit unfair imo, unless everyone was using that same setting. It allows you to see through curves that other players couldn't see though if they were using a lower setting, like 0.

Dangerously cheesy.

I use 0 in Q3/QL. Tried other values for a while but the higher it gets, the more my depth perception gets fucked. Never could understand why pro players seem to prefer the legoquake style.

r_subDivisions has absolutely nothing to do with texture sharpness. It configures how detailed curves are drawn, for example arches or curved ledges are much smoother with lower values while with very high values you possibly even hide an enemy.

0 or 7
depends on mood.

or sometimes just r_lightmap 1 Winking

btw. picmip rly gives so big adventage to performance? it only changes MB used by graphic card i guess. actually most cads in community computers can handle 0 without difference if we use 12 i guess. even at older machines.
