For posting definite points, I think Bo and HQ are the only people who've touched on the way I feel personally. Those things aren't just for breaking into the "professional" leagues but for getting better at all, I know my game improved 100% when I got a better monitor, better mouse, better surface, better headphones, and learned how to tweak the game to suit me.

The only person I've ever seen play on someone else's cfg with any sucess is Skull. I think he's the exception, rather than the rule. I've never been able to use anyone else's cfg except Dementor... and even his was fcking weird!

But anyway, there's only one pro-level gamer in E+ (that I know of), and I'd like to make note of the fact that he hasn't posted here. In the time it takes all of us to write this stuff out and argue, agree or disagree and repost again...

you could've been fragged by him several hundred times Cool

Yes it is. I cant play worth shit with a ball mouse or a crappy mousemat. joystick is just an extreme of the same problem, wrong gear. Same with modem, T1 connection is better than ADSL which is (normally) better than ISDN which is better than 19.2 modem..

Take TB.Doomer. Maybe one of the best DOOMII players in the world at that time. When Q1 came out he still could beat the crap out of most Q1 players on keyboard but in the end skill and natural ability and practice couldnt take away the fact that without changing to mouse he would loose his edge. It's the same whatever you do, You can be the best tennisplayer in the world but you aint never gonna win the biggest tournaments without the good enough equipment.

..... But it will be all for naught, if you yourself don't have any skill worth talking about. Aye?

Ofcourse, thats why I had 100% total on natural ability and dedication, and 100% on gear. To be the best you can be, and we are talking pro level here (look at subject), you need both. The gear wont make you better, but it can easilly make you worse.

Generally, the path to become pro(!) is simple imo: Spend huge amounts of time playing the game daily (>6 hours). Play concentrated and always learn from mistakes. (edit: ofc a natural "skill" is welcome but since you are attracted to the game you should have it)

So pretty much the most important fact is experience. Not simply deep knowledge of how the game ticks but more than that.
(all the above for fps games not just e+)

In your case i'd suggest playing superior opponents, it ALWAYS helps.

ps 1: I am almost dead certain there was a thread exactly like this one in the past.

ps 2: Try #e+pickup on irc, you might find what you look for...

Professional means for me, if somebody earns money with that what he has learned, and he must be able to live with that money. The rest i name amateurs and hobby-player.

Well something is in it. Generally I agree with Mow, but also I agree with HQ.

I am professional in my field so I earn money for my knowlege. I meet many amateurs, enthusiast and ppl who think they know my stuff better then me but they are working on other positions, It always makes na laugh how narrow minded and ignorant is that. You are PRO when you have years of experience which gives you wide look on the topic. Not always experience makes you pro, you have to have talent.

But... I think in life, real PROs are entrepreneurs who start they own companies and make them prosper. Its ultimate challenge for a PRO.
