Hi.
New to these mods... I have been playing InstaGib and Rocket Area and loving them.
Thought I would give E+ a try.

Installed
and configure (I believe) correctly. I was under the impresstion that
this mod granted all weapons at the begining of a map and that the whole
game should be faster and more action packed.

When I launch, I
get the option for the HUD in the menu and the game screen has Excessive
Plus written in one of the corners. The end of the game also gives me a
ranking & stats type display in the bottom left of the screen.

When
I play the game it's no faster than vanilla Quake III Arena and I don't
get all the weapons on start up, I get the standard machine gun and
that's it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

since some Update we got baseq3 alike config as default.

to find out about all possible configurations

Excessive Plus is the fastest, most explosive quake3 3D Action/Shooter (FPS) Mod in the world. It works with Quake III, IoQuake3, OpenArena and Xreal. The mod and the community are active, We welcome You at our servers & homepage !

What about is this mod ? In a nutshell, "E+ is modification where all weapons are super-powerful and in every way excessive."

The mod is very extensible, so it's hard to say how servers are "typically" configured, but usually health starts at 300 and regenerates. The mod gives you the ability to multi-jump, sort of like flying, which speeds up the game especially if the grapple/hook is not enabled. The mod incorporates the FreezeTag and Unlagged mods, and is based on the work of Mr. Pant's Excessive mod

Despite the statement above, E+ does not have to be fast or explosive. Unlike most Mods, E+ contains a powerful scripting engine that can alter its game-play in almost unlimited possibilities. E+ can behave or imitate (right down to the last setting and physics and extend) exactly like baseq3, Defrag, CPMA, etc. Ofcourse we have many own E+ game styles (plusN, e5r, bananarail..), some more popular then others, that's natural. And unlike other Mods, E+ has an active development process and versions designed specifically for Quake III or OpenArena. To test this, ask an Admin to demonstrate this for you, or even more take and create one by yourself. Similarly,

Thanks for the reply guys!

Not sure where to put the configs and what to name them and how to exec them.
I downloaded excessive5.cfg from here: http://www.excessiveplus.net/forums/thread/quake-3-weapons-configs-library?destination=node%2F22443 and can't get it to work any differently than std Q3A.
Tried execing the cfg file with a batch file but that doesn't seem to work either.

Any ideas on where I'm going wrong?

you can not execute such configs, you need to \load them.

execute works only for configs with cvars.

Hey dude, welcome here. This is kinda meta-mod where you can config everything, taking Q3 engine to extreme. From all aspects of weapons behaviour, through physics and gametype tricks, to items, speed (run, swim etc), powerups, whatever.. You can even set some odd stuff, like crontab simulation or code the exact server referee commands and so on..

It's really worth an effort to invest some time and figure this mod, cause the level of flexibility meets magic IMHO. And you can do all that through either flexible configs, or programmable scripts. A good start is to investigate docus & check default.cfg in E+/Conf folder. That might give you a clue how the system works.

About what you've asked, put the cfg file in your Q3/E+/Conf folder. While in game just type: /load cfgname. In your case it would be: /load excessive5. Though i don't think you have to download that particular one, as it's included in standard E+ installation.

Also I'd like to add that Excessive plus has very easy server configuration engine, no more counting up bitmasks for dm flags, physics and weapons. instead you get WP_weaponname, DM_dmflagname, and P_physicsname. most stuff is self explanatory, you can find everything you need in default.cfg wich is in excessiveplus/conf folder. its all explained there Thumbs up
