got an mx510, works very nice with func 1030 mat, just have to wipe ash off it now and again

look FUNC 1030 too, perfect one for me, but i have mx1000, with icemat too much sound, girlfriends don't like it

yes. an icemat is made of glass so you get the odd squeak

I use an MX510 with the right button dead so an MX518 is next on my list. However, I use an A4 size piece of quality paper on an old rubber backed mouse mat and I find it gives me better control. When the paper gets dirty and/or worn, I simply cut a new piece to fit the mouse mat. I do not like the mouse feeling 'loose' which it does if I use my desk or mouse mat.
