i support hooligans, i think they are a necessary part of the game and are the biggest supporters of the clubs, which need them.

But...I would have liked an option like "I understand/support their fanatic love for a club/team, but do not approve the degree of violence they use."

--------------------------------

Hooliganism? Was ist das?

There are "peaceful" hooligan groups you know. (i know it sounds weird) Problem is there arent many of them. They usually express themselves in the stands during the game, and sometimes they do it pretty hardcore. But once the game is finished, and they're out of the stadium, they keep their cool and just stick to chants and marching together, like an army. Now that part of "hooliganism" i like/support as it really makes me feel proud to be a fan of the respective club/team.

The other ones that just go 10 vs 1 on the opponent team's supporters, are just brainless rejects of society in most cases. They thrive on violence, and hit before they think, guiding themselves by their caveman primal instincts. Also, racism and xenophobia are in most cases common traits found within these people.

In recent years this kind of hooliganism has expanded beyond belief, football clubs and the rest of the supporters having to pay for the hooligans' actions. This is what kills the fun of any sport.

--------------------------------

Extreme hooliganism (or the so called 'Ultras')

Last year hooligans killed a police officer at a Serie A game. When such extreme violence and total disregard for any kind of law and order occur then it's a clear sign the current system isn't working...Isn't it time to make a change? How many more innocent supporters/police officers have to die before smth is done? Usually extreme cases require extreme solutions. Unfortunately only one extreme is still present....the bad one....

(more about this here: http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/02/04/sports/fans.php)

(and the other side of it where a police officer kills a supporter: http://sports.setanta.com/en/Blogs/A-to-Z-of-Bloggers/Nick-Royle/2007/11/Italy-finally-ready-to-take-on-the-violence/)

(some video portraying of these morons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN4vHYYqBmE)

- I took Italy as my main example because the hooligan incidents in Serie A have vastly surpassed any of the other european divisions and imo it could be your perfect start point.

--------------------------------

Solutions?

Well I dont fully agree with the way things are handled now...making the club pay for it by closing its doors for (ALL) the general public, fining it or suspending it's stadium. Why do I have to pay for the actions of a neanderthalic group of people?

Imo each club should make its own database with these pariahs and just deny their access to the stadium. Yes it takes time to compile such a database (mostly with the local police help), yes it can make stadium queues last longer, yes it can cost a lot of money, but I truly believe the end results are worth it. (I think UK has a similar system going and it seems to be working wonders).

--------------------------------

Conclusions?

Watch the game, don't make it a shame! (this is actually copyrighted @ me Big grin)

--------------------------------

Hope my detailed view on this subject helps you out a little.

hooligans in q3 are the funniest things going, it would be depressing without drunken aimers, stupid mistakes they make and the general humour they give Big grin true they arent "hooligans" by definition but they surely make the servers more interesting!
