I played couple years ago mod called XoneXfer
and it had 1 freaking awsome thing
/rcon g_warmupPlay 0/1
In 1v1 tournament games, this allows spectators to play in a warmup ffa match while waiting.

hm, in most cases 1v1 warmup time is about 20 secs, then u could play 10 secs or so, big deal xD

no honestly, it was really usefull, checked out that servers too beside the fact i was leaking some stuff it was very smooth and nice to play ffa.

i like it i tested XoneXfer .. cool idea 
also in XoneXfer there was something else i liked also : when you shot at a door its not opening .. its opening only when you are near it ... cant we add this option in the server config system ? would be nice

Beast dont do that, you will destroy our current gameplay, imagine flying thru the rooms without the ability to open doors with 1 mg hit, you will stop on every door, that sux =/
If you do that I will leave this mod 
but FFA warmup game on 1v1 gametype can be interesting, especially on rail4ever when it has 6/6 and you'll need to wait and wait for your turn

It depends on how the map was done. it's a feature in the funct_door (it's about mapping)
Wanna avoid seeying mow, skull & co

I think u didn't get what it's about...
I will give u a easy explanation of it.
example:
6 people on tournament server, 2 playing actual game + 4 spectators.
Booooring specting
On xonexfer mod u can decide if u wanna spec the proper 1v1 fight,
or u can chose to warmup and play ffa vs rest spectators
When proper 1v1 fight is finished, so is the ffa
It's a simple thing to kill the waiting on tournament servers.
@ xonexfer there was also somthing rather stupid but still cool
When killing opponet with rail, he could manage to shot u aswell in same milisecond.
