Hello E+ Team, just some questions.

I will set up a few public 24h servers.

First of, what windows version is prefeble for a 24/server? I am planing on using windows server 2003, but not sure it's the best chooise.

Can you recomend a really good server setup utility?

The server (amd 2500+ on nforce2 ultra400 chipsetwith 512 (or hopefully if i can aford it 1024) mb ram, how many dedicated servers with say 12 players each should it be able to handle? Will use no bots whatsoever.

Anything special I should think about regarding the network settings? Like duplex settings or QoS packet sheduler and stuff. The connection will be 10Mbit both up and down. The ISP swedish BBB if that helps.

Firewall settings, what protocols do q3 use? both tcp/ip and UDP? Should netbios be enabled (not blocked) for any reason?

The best way to get (keep) good statistics on the servers? Aim and so on. The Csports.net web page is not very accurate i think. Right now i'm listed as nr.1 in the world on E+ lol. Maybe i belong on the top 15 list, but not nr.1 in anycase. Unanamedplayer is listed as nr2 Big grin

That's it for now, sure I will plauge you with more questions when I get to it.

Regards,

Alien

PS: Any tips whatever it may be regarding security, ping and performance is appriciated.

if you want a 24h server, Linux is the best choice, all that matters is band with, with that configuration you can have 150 players with ease.
It only uses tcp/ip.

Free yourself use Linux.

If Windows 2003 Server isn't too expensive for you, it should be fine.
I have never hosted more than 2 game servers, so at least 2 will run smooth.

I don't know but some use Q3ASC.

You need only UDP.

IMHO there are no good statistic generators. Csports is very inaccurate, it's more like a report of the moment.
Try aestats or voodoostats. The second needs PHP/MySQL.
(EDIT: voodoostats is now vsp; haven't tried it yet but looks similar).
I have also a stats project running which I will continue by time.

I run an ut2k3, desert combat, enemy terrritoy and 2 quake 3 excessive+ servers on my dedicated server. All of them can support 20 people, and the server handles that with ease (I run only at lan party's). It is a 1ghz with 512mb ram. So you see alot of servers isnt a problem as long as you configure them correct.

Free yourself use Linux.

I was able to get my hands on a P3 1GHz with 512 MB ram for free so I won't by the AMD setup I was planing on, not right now anyway. It's up and it works great, no craches or stuff so far Happy. I use Win XP Pro for now, it seems to work great so i'll probably stick with it. It's the mr ffa dm17 server incase anyone wonders. BTW, I use Q3 server wizard to make the servers, thx mulle who gave it to me Big grin

If it's a dual p3 it's prbably rd-ram in it, and that stuff is insanly expensive sadly. Still not one single crach Happy At first i caried my only monitor back and forth, but now I have remote dsektop control from my regular computer and that seems to work good to thank god Big grin
