Hi, from some times i've got a serious packet loss problem.
before this post i tryed different way to solve it but without any results.
The pics at the end of the post will show you the problems:

Usually after one or two maps a huge packet loss begin to emerge(maybe is linked to pc overheating), it comes and goes, particularly comes at spawn and goes after some seconds, ping like loss begin to grow, but not so much like loss.

All my tests:
-I tryed different servers but the problem appears everywhere, most in beer server but also in the other servers.
-I tryed different operative systems (xp and 7) but nothing has changed.
-I tryed 2 different isp(and router) but nothing has changed.
-I tryed to scan my pc with antivirus and antyspyware, but nothing was found.
-I tryed to change quake 3 vars like your guide show, but nothing has changed.
-I tryed to monitor the net, but i found nothing strange.
-I tryed to stress test cpu and ram to find some error, but nothing was found.
-I tryed to monitor the process and minimize the number of process in use to avoid resources loss(31 process, i have a laptop).

All my q3 relevant vars and hw specifications:
HW:
-cpu: Mobile DualCore AMD Turion X2 RM-70
-screen: LG Philips LP154WX4-TLAB [15.4" LCD]
-video: ATI RS780M(ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics 512mb)
-ram: 2gb DDR
VARS:
-com_maxfps 125
-cl_maxpackets 125
-rate 25000
-cl_timenudge 0
-cl_packetdup 2
-Com_hunkmegs 256
-r_displayrefresh 85
-r_mode 4

I also update last driver.
I use windows xp sp3 but i have installed windows 7 to.
Actually i'm the only person who use this connection.
If you need further information ask it.
I really need help, i have never been strong, but now i can't play like before.
If you have some tips or idea please tell it to me, thanks.

You should try to install cfosspeed. This program is great for repairing "packetloss". Some of my friends in this community use it and now they don't have any problems with LAG.
Well, you can find this program on torrent sites... I have it but I don't remember the name of the dvd, sorry.

Good luck. : )

Everything finally falls into place !

the maximum value used for com_soundMegs and com_zoneMegs is "32". This
is because higher values do not really have an effect.

softy can you add an image with your netgraph box?

Re: Serious packet loss problem

-Down are the screen of the tracert and ping. I don't think the problem is due to the isp, i tryed 2 different isp (2mb) and i have the same problem.
-cl_packetdup tryed with 1,2,3,4,5, nothing changed.
-com_zonemegs is 16, latched 64
-snaps 40 nothing changed.
Sorry epsi, i don't understand where i have to take the netgraph box.
Thank you.

Re: Serious packet loss problem

This is the netgraph:

It's also called lagometer because the command for it is cg_lagometer 0/1 (1 for enable)

try to play with cl_timenudge to see if your packets loss also decreases

Understanding the Lagometer
http://earthli.com/quake/lagometer.php
http://gameadmins.com/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=5
http://www.quaketweaks.com/faq.html (the section called "Reading lagometer")

your problem could also not be related with q3 at all .. same can happen if 1 program is running in background and uses cpu .. like winamp / a multitabs browser (firefox / internet explorer etc.) or a program that uses the internet connection also (torrents / weather channel in systray)

you might wanna check your comp for worms or internet viruses in the last case ( i had a worm/virus that was sending emails or internet requests from my computer Confused and after 1h of uptime the internet was shuting down)
