Service Pack 3 Update > Lag?

Soon after i updated my sp3 my fps are dropping all the time. anyone else got this problem?

my fps is constant at 125... but sometimes is drops to half, but comes back up again after a split second causing some sort of 'lag'... is this what you get too?
(i use the word lag liberally)

Reno Mate! I gott this problem before the same yes! i hade installed the SP3 and i gott some heavy FPS drop all the time on the game after that install you know i have whined about lag on the game theese last days on the public servers you know! and yeah iknow there are some lags on the servers aswell but not this much. Well i checked my comp i have SP3 installed (: uff i did not know this! so there will be an Format C: all though i have little difficultys 2 belive that its the sp3 that make the fps drop dunno for sure though! for me the FPS gott fucked after that intsall though (: either way i dont wonna that crapy shit on my comp so there will be an Format.

Same here.
Uh, you guys do realize, that SP3 contains just windows updates, right? Ie, the stuff your windows downloads anyway if you have autoupdates on.
Do the fps probs happen everywhere? Offline, online, pb on, pb off? How about other games? You're being a little vague, here.

My bad, i must have missed it. My Q's still stand, tho.
This may not be SP3, but perhaps something that SP3 started running. You guys checked the task manager (alt+ctrl+del) for any resource hoggers?

Well i have looked the task manager Mad but this one i could need some help whit! what should i look for? you gott any specific runns that it turns on auto?
any tips would be great!!!!

Just go to the 'processes' tab and see if there's anything taking cpu time or large amounts of memory. I'm not exactly sure what you are supposed to look for, only thing SP3 turned on when i installed it was the autoupdater, maybe the fps problems you guys experience are caused by it? You can turn it on/off in start->control panel->security center.
Other than that, i don't know. Maybe punkbuster started freaking out? Won't hurt to reinstall it.

I had the same problem with FPS drop (from constant 125 to 30 in a split second) that caused the same "lag" while playing....but that started months and months ago. BTW. my SP3 download is waiting for a long time to be installed in my sys tray (win update is ON, but manual).
What seemed to fixed my FPS drop problem (mainly, it was still there, but not as often as before) is that I cleared my registry, did a bit of cleanup & re-organisation of my hard drive. AND I reinstalled my Q3.
But I still need to take some time and reinstall my winXP since I know Quake can run much better on my PC. I'm just too lazy for that now and dont have time...
Conclusion 
its NOT SP3 guys (I'm sure 99%). Clean up your registry & C drive a bit and do some virus and malware scans. And reinstall your game. Hope it will help.

Well i checked some into this problem and i solved the lag.. this sounds very funny what i am gonna say right now but i disable the Antivirus prog and akadabra runs smooth again. AVG that shit had pretty heavy ammount off memory must be something wrong it should not take that much and yeah i gott the FREE AVG program. dunno what has happend but i mean i could play before np whit anti turned on etc. and yeah there was no uppdates during in the background or something like that but then again i cant really remember when i format last time :] so i think you gott something there beast! one format would not hurt or just reinstall the quake this helps aswell. But i will go for an Format when i have the streanght to this
