i am sorry bozo, but after all this time i didn't have a single virus.
Why? because I disabled most infectable windows services - together with the windows installer. I have to enable it manually each time I install something 
btw, you can basically put any virus into a jpeg/png whatever. Since graphics go through your gfx which has 100% access to cpu/ram you can be infected anytime someone wants. And no Antivir will see it fast enough.
All you need is knowledge of ur system and a hardware firewall, hacking a pc is always possible, secret service people got some so called zerodays exploits, OS/Cpu specific exploits that work on any machine and are not known to public.

And you think that you have full control over all the software running on your PC and the vulnerabilities it has? That made my day! 
And how should you know if you never had a virus if you never installed any AV software?

bozo, if you read carefull the exploit aint in opera, its in adobe, adobe is known for being vulnerable (rather use foxit reader).
and how I know? my connection is so small I recognise any instability instantly
(besides scanning my pc with desinfec't from time to time).

well, if u keep yours browsing to known pages its real hard to get any infection, i have used my pc without AV all the time because i don't like that AV slows disk operations when i want to access files, from time to time i check and since i don't have any infections it rather confirms that this is possible to go that way, but u need to have some knowledge about software, if u test some new software download things from net then u can expect to get a virus and having a live scanning AV is a must

better learn how to use correctly operating system / software and you will not get any viruses 
virus is not some hacker what comes to your pc by backdoor.
ps. change system to something where is not so many bad software (viruses) like are in windows ;]

castrated OS is a must go because its twice as fast as normal win xp.

only one creators of viruses are companies who selling antiviruses. neverending circle...
Articles on internet about terrible dangerous internet full of viruses etc. Everything like this is payed by companies like notron etc. And people believe it and buying it. I work in shop and i know there are people who wont turn on pc without actualised antivirus software. Really lol.

2. "Pay! Money - constant updates, no viruses!";
3. "Don't use AV, just be smart enough to avoid sneaky pages".
