Re: World Cup South Africa

Dear Leader isn't going to be pleased with a 7-0 scoreline. In any case, let's hope for some GG's in the last group games.

Stage 2 (knockout round ladies and gentlemen!)

Uruguay vs South Korea
USA vs Ghana
Holland vs Slovakia
Brazil vs Chile
Argentina vs Mexico
Germany vs England
Paraguay vs Japan
Spain vs Portugal

France & Italy are out (no more campioni del mondo bind's on beer) and a historical low of 6 European teams are through from the groupstage. Previous low? 8 teams in 2002 and 2006. Vorwarts!

Re: World Cup South Africa

An impressive victory of the German team, which will certainly draw praise again of the international press. And totally excessive euphoria in Germany anyway. But such a spectacular game just can happen if both teams are more or less on the same level when both don't play too defensive.

Both teams started almost unchanged, Germany again with the embattled Schweinsteiger and Boateng as left defender. The only change: the suspended Klose came back into the team. The lineup was the usual 4-2-3-1, which changed to a 4-4-2 in the defense. Remarkably, the back line was very closely spaced and centrally, to make the middle dense. Müller and Podolski had to work much for defense.

England compared to 1-0 against Slovenia played unchanged in the usual 4-4-2. Gerrard, nominally on the left, but running arround more centraly. The English midfielders changed constantly positions, sometimes Barry apeared on the left, and the other way arround Gerrard on the right. Only Lampard remained on his position in the central. Rooney often dropped deep in midfield to join the game.

Nevertheless, Germany dominated the game in the midfield. Because the German team had the numerical majority in there, which always results when a 4-2-3-1 team meats a 4-4-2 team. In this case, that meant Schweinsteiger, Khedira and Özil against Lampard and Barry. Schweinsteiger was often not defended because of that, who played behind Khedira and Özil. But also Özil could intervene again and again and dictate the German game. But often engouh Gerrard equalised this superiority in the midfield. As a result, for England left side were nearly nothing.

Both teams decided to not play too much agressive pressing. Germany attacked at the center line, England started to attack 30 m in front of their goal. As Joachim Löw said after the game that it was the plan to grant the British ball-possession to play set up quick counter attacks. A counter tactic which fully worked.

Nevertheless, the 1-0 for Germany was really cheap: Neuer with the assist, because Terry underestimated the ball, Klose physically asserted against Upson in a world class manner. Was this the Klose without practice??? Symptomatic on the first goal was that the English defended not as good as we are actually used by them. Typical was the emergence of 2-0, when the English midfielder didn't switch fast engouh from offense to defense.. Added to this was that the German combination was simply outstanding. If a defense is left alone like this, and a team makes such precise combination, a goal must simply happen.

These situations showed, how you should not play against Germany (Opened on the back). If a team gives so much space to Germany, get's punished, and that witha fairly impressive consistnecy. If you play cautiously and defensively, however, make the rooms narrow, then it would have been difficult for Germany. See Serbia, see Ghana. Seen like this, England was the right opponent at the right time. Argentina won't give Germanyn so much space.

The English 1:2 results out of a German chain of error (Neuer, Boateng, plus whoever should have defended Gerrard) showed of course, that Germany is vulnerable in the defense, even if always a goal can happen out of a standard situation. Nevertheless, the German team was impressed and could have get a 2:2 anyway, (not counted the not given goal).

After the break, both teams wanted to block the offensiv orientated game of the end of the 1st half. England attacked earlier and could force the German to ball-losses by pressing and provoced som critical situations because of that. Even the most dangerous scene was Lampard by hitting the crossbar, while England wasn't realy dangerous through combinations.

The two goals by Mueller were again symptomatic: One fell after a blocked free kick in the German penalty area, the other after an intercepted flank of England. Both mistakes leaded to a quick impact by Germans. Impressive efficiently by the German team, and with an incredible (and seldom seen before) naturalness. I felt remembered of the counter-demonstrations by the Dutchman in the first round of the last European Championship.

And here the other countries have the problem. If they give Germany the room for combinations, the dig their own grave. Conversely, those who defend compact in the own half, and of course the chance to destroy the game of Germany. Also Argentina has recognized this for sure.

So, by all euphoria once again, we are NOT world champions, yet.

Hope this was more or less readable Happy Not time to make a perfect post.

Re: World Cup South Africa

Even with my love to fooyball I don't watch WC anymore cause I am pissed off with that blind morons. Almost in every game they make rude mistakes. It's already not funny when referees on WC are from countries where football is on 100th place of popularity from sports games.
