i'm being kick out from servers. mostly on the end of fight but sometimes during game and than on the q3 screen i see this:

HUNK_ALLOC ATEMPTMEMORY: FAILED ON 3145736 (each time the number is diferent)
or
HUNK_ALLOC FAILED...

and while playing sometimes i see and hear like the game is not responding for few seconds and if it's bad i have to reset my pc.

any ideas???

If I am not mistaken, what is happening is Quake is reaching a memory limit. Quake simply crashes when you have filled the available RAM. You need to increase the amount of RAM Quake is allowed to use manually.

In your baseq3/q3config.cfg, add

[code:1]set com_hunkmegs 96[/code:1]

or a greater number. I'm not sure if adding too much is not good for the performance of your PC in general. I hope this helps.

Perhaps more experienced e+ players can tell me if this setting has to be in the excessiveplus/q3config.cfg as well.

Yeah, setting it to 96 should be no problem. Try that and see if it works. If it's not enough, try 128 and so on.

This is not vid card problem. This is - as parasight said - a memory problem. But i wonder if setting hunkmegs to a higher value will help... I play on default setting (56) and never had a similar prob. So it may be that your PC has not enough RAM in general. 256 megs could be not enough - win XP itself consumes lots of memory. You could take a look at your windows' virtual memory setting. Try to set it to 512 megs - maybe it helps. Btw if you have not enough RAM setting hunkmegs to a higher value may have no effect as there wouldnt be enough free memory to allocate. Or? Dunno... Try both ways Big grin

-- EDIT --
Plus, try to kill all the tasks that are running in the background and that you can get rid of. These are taking up your RAM. Some of them can steal you even a couple of megs... Like office toolbar for example.

I've done it before, it helped. I had 512MB RAM at the time with a 64MB videocard. It happened when I would use a certain complex player model that needed loads of memory.

btw im wondering - why is that ... normally 24 fps is enough to present a smooth movement (movies in cinemas or tv has 24 fps value) ... then why while playing a game one feels the difference so clearly?
