Theres somthing wrong with my GFX Card its an Nvidia FX 5200

When i switched on my comp one day it loaded windows then after the windows loading screen it just went blank then flashed blue an computer restarted its self !
I had to restart the comp in safe mode to uninstall the graphic drivers
Then it will load windows ok if i do that.
I downloaded the latest drivers an went to install them again but the problem happend again Sad

Any Ideas??

what issues make you think it is gfx card, i mean flash blue and switching off is the symptoms, but what ties it to the graphics card?

A tartan piece of rope Big grin
(sorry Zack, i_...just....couldnt....resist............................Tongue)

I have a fx of the same generation (fx5500) on my computer back home in London (t'was an upgrade: the card is now worth more than all the original components of the computer put together amd multiplied by 2)

Anyhoo, try to test around with settings in your computer's BIOS...

Oh, and as Goddam pointed out the GFX problem could be a symptom rather than a cause, check out if the hard drive(Drunk are connected properly, disconnect and connect it (them)... and so on... Think of it as a sort of checkup...

I know, not the most sophisticated advice, but hey, Im trying to help best as i can Happy

right now i can use my computer without any of the graphic drivers.
but when i install the drivers it wont switch on Sad it loads windows then before the log on screen it flahes blue an restarts.
thats why i think its the graphic card.

Im going to install some old drivers to see if that fix the problem also ill check my bios settings to see how they are.

Ill let you know how i get on.

ok i think its to do with the graphic (moniter) settings. Anytime i change screen resolution colour depth or refresh rate it makes the screen go blank an freeze so i think the problem is to do with them.

Bios settings look all fine. An tested old drivers aswell as new but dont help..

I remember i installed Microsoft journel viewer before this happend but
dont know if that has anything to do with this.
An one last thing ive noticed in device manager under moniters i have 3 default moniters an 1 plug & play moniter. Dont think they were there before this has happend.

What version (year) is the Journal Viewer? If its from the Windows- ME era, then it just might conflict with your OS Confused

I can think of 2 things...

1) Shut down, unplug monitor, check connections, etc... Though you probaly did (Tongue) .. its just the most mundane shit usually is the cause, and I can contribute cos I am the computer breaking expert, and I learned the hard way :'(

2) About the Journal viewer... sometimes the weirdest shit conflicts with each other... when my dad installed Skype on our home computer, AOL drivers and the whole inet connection started tripping out Confused So try uninstalling it, and see if that matters...

Oh, and check how the GFX card sits inside, as in relation to the motherboard, etc... just in case.

Mad spots another double post

Sad sigh

Zackboy, you might wanna uninstall the drivers while running your windows in safe mode (uh, you did uninstall the old drivers before installing the new ones?). Then remove those extra monitors, everyone except the "plug & play" one. Then install the newest ones you can find. You might wanna also check your "hardware acceleration" setting (screen -> settings -> advanced -> troubleshooting/fixing problems). If it's to the max, decrease it one step down. If it isn't, put it to the max.

As a last resort, you can try to decrease your AGP acceleration in bios.

Problem fixed Happy

I deleted all entries in reg with file name NV4
Deleted all files on computer named NV4

Reinstalled New Graphic drivers Happy

EDIT::

Problem not fixed till i restart my comp Evil Evil Crying
Still doing the same coming up to blank screen then flashing blue an restarting.

So now i got to restart computer in safe mode disable the graphics card restart computer in normal mode then enable the graphics card.
I guess ill need to keep doing this till problem is fixed or never switch off my comp LOL....
