I'm interested in delving into making maps for q3.
What software do I need to go about doing this and if there are multiple options, which is the most recommended?

there are actually 2 softwares, gtkradiant (better one) and q3radiant (i use it cuz gtkradiant didnt run on my win98), i would recommend simply googling for gtkradiant and a tutorial, also u might ask insanekid.

Actually I did google for a Q3 Map maker but I got so many hits It confused the daylights out of me Happy
I'll post at the link you gave and I'll google for those you suggested.
