Hello there,

Yes it's me again with all my question..
I've some questions about the map editors/makers.

What kind of program is good to use?
Is it hard, and friendly to use?
Do we need one or more programs to maka a map and all the other stuff?

I did some little research and i've tried some few little programs for map edit/maker.
But that's along time ago, so i don't remember the names of it.
I've seen you can make and download alot of textures for the maps..
Example: Ground, Sky, Floor, Walls, Boxes etc.
Is it hard to make some own textures? And where can we find default or Textures-Packs or something?

I hope somone with good experience can give me good advise, about the programs that's needed. And what to do or how to start exactly. But i think it's very hard to do..

And can someone give me some screens, names, reviews about the differents of each program that be can used for map making/edit.

What kind of programs do you use as map maker/editor?

Thanks alot again!
And i very appreciate your help & advise!

Kind Regards.

there are 2 : q3radiant(old tool) and gtkradiant(newest tool) (I was using this, found easier for me)
But it's up to you to choose. That's all u need as program for making maps.

Making a texture isn't hard from original image file. u just need to resize it to a good format (to work well with brush sizes) as :

    - 1x1(dot having one color Laughing - 16x16(tiny)
    - 32x32(very small)
    - 64x64(small)
    - 128x128(normal)
    - 256x256(large)
    - 512x512(very large)
    - 1024x1024(huge)
    - ...
You can also use a pic size like 368x204 but it's not recomended. It's better to use kind of 128x64 for a door as example.

Only possible images formats are .jpg or .tif if I remember well.

If you want to create your own image from start, u need a designing tool such as photoshop.

All right i understand. Yeh i have Photshop CS4!
But i will try it first with the standard textures of the map. This would be the next step if i know how to do.

Dear

I found this program finaly, but i read alot on the internet, that this program is more for games like HL1 (Half-Life 1), Q2 (Quake2)..

They advice peaple who wanna make maps for games as HL2 (Half-Life 2), Q3 (Quake 3) or any other newer game. To use GtkRadiant or GtkRadiant.

I remember Quark my first editor for q3, it was so crap that I didnt make any map on it.

Old and Good Q3Radiant 202
I used also GtkRadiant-1.1.1-RC3 its simmilar to q3radiant, I needed to use it for more complex brushes, but in the end it failed cuz of outdated q3 engine.

my vote goes to gtkradiant i used 1.5, but some 1.4 people who prefer are moving on to 1.6 (if they can work around some of the bugs)...

by the way, textures are jpg and tga.
also, no point going above 512x512 Tongue

remember to backup everything... i've seen numerous mappers lose their work.
