make quake3 to connect only from port 53

hello all

im thinking this will able to help the ping and lag

is there a way to "tell' quake3.exe to connect to server via port 53
for example

myIP.53 serverIP.port
i think its will reduce the ping by 30-40ms and will make the line smooth much more

unlagging game can bring so much happiness

maybe i could make it more understandable

i tested utorrent with random port to download something got low speed

after change the port in setting of the app the speed jumped to maximum

so what i wanna do is

change the setting of quake3 to make the connection to server via port 53

so if i open tcpview i will see

myPC ip:53 connect to quake3 server : anyport

its doesnt must to be via setting maybe another application?

unlagging game can bring so much happiness

Ping is not speed! Ping is the response time from the server u wanna connect, and your idea wont't change your "ping" a bit.

thx for ur reply

tis will change the ping cos port 53 preference in ISP system

i have now 140ms i remember i had 100-110ms

anyways the smooth of the connection will be much better

unlagging game can bring so much happiness

you have no influence on the response time of the hops and the gameserver. Believe me.

Also, don't u believe anyone would have discovered this already since 1999?

Very bad idea using 53 port which reserved for DNS transactions. You can be banned by ISP for flooding.
Strongly not recommend using ports below 1024. It all reserved for main network services (like DNS).

I don't understand your example:

to set the port you need to add
+set net_port 53
on the shortcut/command that starts the Quake 3 server

or in the server configuration file before anything else add

seta net_ip "serverIP"
seta net_port 53

(You don't need to add the net_ip unless you have more internet connections and this way you tell quake 3 to listen only on 1 ip)

if you have a router with port-forwarding then you need to forward your server port to port 53

thx accuslly it got the ping higher much more up to 200ms

port 80 took it to 150ms normal is 130ms

unlagging game can bring so much happiness
