I agree with rusty, I started my rail-only FFA server last night and to my surprise had over 20 people log on & play between midnight and 2 am
However I am disaapointed that every 5 minutes or so I had lag so bad that everyones ping jumped to 999
. I am using basic roadrunner cable but RR does offer a buisness class connection. Maybe I will look into that. (any suggestions?)
The point being...many of the people who logged on were n00bs to E+ and have never played a rail-only game. As the players left I recieved many thanks as I explained how to play E+. I only hope that they will return E+ soon.
I'm not sure where you at but i got Comcast, it's a two way connection meaning cable up and down streme. I have seen one way cable, cable down and dial up upstreme.
that is the only thing i can think about, my server can hold about 12 people befor i start getting lag, check your cfg also, something like having your rocket's at 50ms will cause major lag for thoes rocket happy people, just slow them down, i find that 200ms is ok, and test your server, if it's rail only no problem, but if you got a all to the wall server perfect one gun at a time, anymore than that WILL cause you to forget what you want to change.
also test the server with bots set to 2 so when you play it's just you and a bot and make it just a lan server, just my preferance because i hate to shut down a server on my players. see what happnes and good luck.

I know I'm not the best at rail...but I know when someone is insulting me and/or insulting the n00bs who come to E+ to play in FFA Rail. I am learning to get better at rail & FFA. I came to E+ playing CTF only but SLipStReAm and a few others encouraged me to try FFA.
If this community is going to get better the insults need to stop. I may be in the USA but I know other languages .
I enjoy greeting new people but lately on my server I get messages from n00bs about the clans bashing & insulting them. I can understand bashing cheaters and fakers but bashing n00bs and those who aren't good at a skill is not a good way to being new people to this community.
Unlike most, I dont let Quake3 take over my life. Those of you that play every day...don't you guys get laid? (Slash & Major do not count as your girlfiends...)
It's a no wonder why the clans are looking for new people, it would seem that there are some who dont want to play quake3 anymore, for what ever reasons...they have moved on to something better. Even if I were to leave the community, no one would care. Thats is ok by me, but no one should be complaining as to why the community is losing people when there is such negativity toward those who are willing to try and play E+.
If I suck at FFA Rail, I'm very good at CTF. I am also very good at making servers & helping others understand how the commands work. (why do the BRO servers have armor, health, & quad in Rail only? :-k)
This post is not an insult to the E+ community, it is just an observation from my point of view. I have high respect for the clans. The clans are true worriors who skills have much to be learned from. I enjoy playing on the BRO servers, they were the first servers I played on. BRO got me into E+! :mrgreen:

i don’t believe many are as rude as you say....the only time i see calls of "damn noob" is perhaps in freeze. and this is understandable...
its a team game and if some one comes to the server and randomly fires at all (shooting opposing team in to lava and unfreezing), camping and not unfreezing team mates....its damn annoying....
having 7 people wait while the final unfrozen player jumps up and down on the launch pad in the lava room on dm11…does not make people think ‘aww bless, look he found the launch pad….i wonder how many jumps he can do with out falling in the lava,…hang on ill just get my coffee and watch patiently’
There is no excuse for not at least knowing how to play the game...or as some new players do, ask how to play...and usually they will get several helpful replies
i don’t agree that if new players come and don’t have very good skill they are criticized...in fact most people will be encouraging…
