Guys me and another quaker are interested in making some quick movies for Quake III.

But we dont know where to start from.

So if you guys can help me out with this i would appreciate it a lot.

Whats the best way to turn demos into Avi's ?

Which video editing tool do you suggest?

What other tools should i use?

To add effects etc.. I advise you Adobe After Effects/Sony Vegas (trial version or h4ckz0r version Tongue) or only to make the video, use Premiere/Final Cut..
You can also use free pieces of software such as VirtualDub.

q3mme is by far the best available to catch your footage.
progs like fraps are totally crap... tho easy and used for many of the "I film a demo and call it movie afterwards"-bullshit you can find.
defrag was used for movies a decade ago... but its much more complicated and less flexible than the earliest versions of q3mme... not even comparable to the latest.

virtual dub is the easiest way to go from jpg/png/bmp/whatever to avi.

adobe audition and sony soundforge are good ones for audio editing... but also a lot of other good progs for audio around... just ask the tune making folks here Happy

video cutting is best done by sony vegas or adobe premier

the only program for decent effect within the private sector is adobe after effects.
(ofc you can do simple effects with vegas or premier too)
as for real 3d scenes you have to go for 3ds max or cinema 3d.

and finally megui with x264 when it comes to encoding Winking

Np spider im the same as you. But i'm making a 12-15 minute movie Tongue . I will get their in the end. Oh im also considering making a small one on fmj Tongue as i have about 9-10 demos of them with some nice clip from a whole host of players Happy

One weapon is enough.

this is exactly what i needed. I mean im not discarding the whole investigation that i will have to do in order to make this project real. I just needed some advice from someone who already had some experience in the field.
