Hmm ok here is an easier way for you to give xgl a chance, Kororaa linux is a distro based on gentoo and comes with xgl pre configured in a live cd, this means you boot form that cd and ejoy the full graphic interface no ned to install unless you like it and everything works fine for you.
Now this distro was flaver was taken out due to gpl violation since they included NVIDIA and ATI drivers so they no longer distribute it, but you can get it form mininova torrent tracker this is the link if you still want to try it http://www.mininova.org/tor/246012 .

Wow thanks, will be interesting for sure... As long as it fits on a normal CD as my DVD burner has for some reason totally forgotten that it can handle DVD's in any way, heh. That was over a year ago by the way, perhaps it's time to get a new one...

I'm sure in some way I should be able to have the CD on my HDD and still boot from it, would be a kabillion times easier and better. Are Daemon Tools fake drives counted before Windows is loaded...? :scratch:

Even closer trying to run it with VMWare but still getting errors, arrrgh... 0.2 version of koraraa gets a nice clean error straight away, 0.1 gets a lot further but fails to initialize actual graphics
