No man, that went away with Bush, mostly. Pretty sure they reached their threshold on that bullshit, you can't spin the same thing for so long and expect an entire nation to buy into it indefinitely. The war on terror turned out to be a big bad boogey man, born from a tragedy but on life support from it's inception. Sure, there's some residual paranoia left over, but that's to be expected with the extent of media manipulation that went on.
As for this, US has a huge internet culture that would cave in if bills like this were allowed to pass. There might be lobbying from bick buck corporations to keep tabs on e-privateering, but when there wasn't? What this is, is the death throes of old age consumerism. I can't even imagine the cultural and economical backlash pushing shit like this through would cause. It's enough to end the politicians involved, and they're not stupid enough to go through with it.
