hi all Happy i've come across a very strange problem with my pc and i'd like some guidance on what the problem could potentially be.

hardware spec:
amd athlon xp 2800 (socket A SadSad )
radeon x800 256mb 16pl
500w psu
1x corsair 1gb memory ddr1 @333
mboard: asus a7n8x-e deluxe

the problem:
i press the power button on my pc. the pc seems like it boots normally yet there is no display. The monitor gives an error message when the computer is turned off that there is "no signal input" which is correct, so i highly doubt that its a problem with my monitor. However, once i turn my pc on i just see that my monitor seems to be constantly in standby mode... no matter if i move the mouse, press del to enter bios or even hold down home to reset bios settings nothing brings it to life.

so, i ask if any of the above hardware could be the problem...or something that i have missed. If i have a rough guideline to which components it could be, it will be much faster for when i am swapping and changing the parts Happy

if it could be any of them, which is what i am expecting..dont worry and thx for ur help in advance Winking

Looks like the signal cable (the one that connects your monitor to your gfx) is dead. Check if it's properly connected. If it is, and it's not welded from the monitor's side, remove it and try plugging a different one.

It also could be something with your graphics card. But i'd bet my money on the cable.

I had sometimes exacly same problem, and i try everything, but it seems as HQ said that jumper (clear cmos) mostly helps, also turn off power cable from monitor for few second-sometimes helps too.

it seems that my motherboard will only take a 2800 (the processor i have) and thats at MAX...so, i have had these 2 things for quite some years now so im actually surprised that it's survived as long as it has, with all the abuse that i throw at it Big grin

if it is the case, ill need to get a whole new computer.... so ill need some money, my parents wont be impressed paying for it all Sad

any1 want to buy some art of mine? Big grinLaughing out loudLaughing out loud

Hmm . In past 3 weeks i came across 3 different computers with the same simptoms. Im beginning to think thats a virus. One of my comps is dead because of standby monitor. One affected computer started normally when i cleaned him with air gun. He survived like 3 days and it came back to its previous state. I say ... very dirty slots, mainboard problem or some kind of electricity bug in ur home that caused inboard dmg. I didnt tried reseting cmos(maybe itll work).

I advise testing every part of broken comp on some other comp and then ull know that they are good or bad Confused.
