Re: 3D laptop Sony Vaio VPCF21Z1E/BI VS Alienware M18X

If I were you, I'd buy a Clevo, at least you can choose what you want : their laptops are customizable.
I see you talking about screen size, but not about their definition ? If it's not 1920*1080, both aren't worth buying them.

Remember that GeForce GT 540M/ GeForce GT 460M are far different than desktop GPUs using the same name without "M".

You could run Crysis etc on both computers, but with low definition and without filters (something like 1280*800 - 1440*900 without filters decently).

None of them would be quieter enough compared to a desktop with nice case.

To be honest, if I were you I'd buy a miniITX computer in your country, travel with it then buy the display in SKorea (you can have better computer with screen than the laptops above for less money).
Well maybe you could buy the whole thing there, I think price will be cheaper..

Anyway, GT460M > GT540M -> http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

Also, I dont like general pc builders politics to put like 8GB or ram because it's a gamer laptop. As long as you don't draw 3D images in professional pieces of software or edit videos/motion design, you don't need 8GB..
2GB + WinXP + 1GB GPU is way enough to ply any video game, if you go to Win7/Vista 64bits then you'll need 4GB, but c'mon 8GB is just to make more money from the customers Winking

If you open your system tray while you play a videogame you'll see that the game doesn't use much memory, it uses mostly its own inboard memory..

As a conclusion I'd either go with this one (looks like its in your prices) :

Pack Clevo P150HM

Price : 1 919,38 €

►15.6" à LED FULL-HD 1920x1080 matte
►Carte AMD 6970 M au choix
►Sandy Bridge
►4Go Mémoire extensible jusqu'à 32 Go DDR3 au choix
►SSD Intel X-25m 80GB
►Blu-ray
►Lecteur 7 en 1 - USB 3.0 -iEEE1394b
►Clavier avec Pavé numérique & FingerPrint
►Sortie Ecran Externe DVI/HDMI compatible 3D-TV Play™
►Webcam 2 Mb M6V
►Wifi N ou N drapht à 450Mb Max
►Bluetooth 3.0 - Module 3G en Option

Without OS, you can download it Winking If you want links.. Tongue

BTW : you cn easily downgrade this laptop, anyway GPU is the main part if you wanna play with it, and its basic GPU is GT460M, so no problem c:

Long post but very useful. I am aware of Clevo, but I want screens that are very big. I also love the way a laptop looks and the Clevo is not much of a stage model. Regardless, I cannot deny that it comes at a very good price with tons of features on it. Thanks to all that have responded, I appreciate the time you take for my post. I will look for miniITX pcs now Epikoy and tbh, I am interested in them as well. Hope that I find a good one though. Probably you have a website where I can further look into this? I will look on my own until then. Thanks again!

Laptop: Sony Vaio 3D: VCPFX215FX/BI with 1TB SSD Samsung 850 Pro.

Well I'm glad you found it helpfull, and yes I have websites to check prices etc.. but french website ofc xD

You can look further in Clevo's website, because they have 17"/18" laptops too !

Anyway, about miniITX,to me its the best solution to have a transportable gaming computer, and I might buy one as soon as $$ Tongue

But there aren't many motherboards etc. right now, it's gonna be better in few months. I dont know when you'll be moving, but keep in mind that AMD is about to launch their new APU, that would be really interesting for gaming laptop tbh. Think they'll come out in June, maybe you'll still be here Tongue

I'll try to post you the kid of pc you can make on such a format, but later now I have to work xD

I already found a very good gaming rig, but it is around $2000 or even more (if I buy the monitor from South Korea). I plan on going there in July, in the beginning.

If you're interested in a gaming rig, you can check this link for a miniITX system. But it's kind of expensive to me.

I am not ruling this out of the question though, as it's a nice system to consider.

Re: 3D laptop Sony Vaio VPCF21Z1E/BI VS Alienware M18X

why the hell spend 2k on a laptop? Big grin

I recently fixed an old pc of mine wich performs better then my regulair, it has pentium 4 but tbh, it performs better then my core2duo somehow. also bought an samsung syncmaster 997mb 19" CRT. The package from samsung wasnt broken so its never been used, it clearly outplays any 120hz TFTs out there.

Best 4 euros ever spend!
