Is it possible to set q3 as a high priority service by default? I can set it manualy when I have q3 already running, but on restart of q3 the settings default back to normal priority.

Is it possible to set its default priority to high? as it's a pain in the ass doing it every time I load up q3.

btw, running win7 enterprise, x64, dual core.

another question Happy in processes, right click on a process and you can set affinity, basicly assigning a process to run through a specific cpu. Is there any merit in assigning q3 to run from first processor and punkbuster to run from the other cpu? would this make q3 run smoother while pb is enabled? just a thought that if it does, might help some people improve performance on pb servers.

you can use start command, like this:
start /ABOVENORMAL quake3.exe +set fs_game excessiveplus +set BLAH-BLAH-BLAH
ABOVENORMAL is one of the availabe process priorities, you can also specify HIGH, REALTIME, etc. though i won't recommend you using anything higher than ABOVENORMAL (normally you don't need it at all). if you want the command to wait until started process has finished (might be useful, especially in batch files) then pass the /WAIT parameter.
you can put the whole thing to a .cmd or .bat file and use it to start q3 with different priority.

try downloading Prolasso http://bitsum.com/prolasso.php Its similair to the windows task manager and u can set different priorities to default. I use it myself and its recommended

q3 is already running on max priority for 1core, any higher priority just causes problems with windows services which maybe (I just expect so) results in stuff like mouse not working properly since usb port aint checked enough. (for example)

OK but what about forcing q3 to use one cpu instead of multiple ?
Back in the unique clan, mnc told me to switch it for 3rd cpu only (as far as i remember) and it was helping to improve the smoothness in gaming (i had quad core). But now I have laptop triple core and already tried to switch to one cpu, but didnt see any difference at all, hmmm

ofc the game will work smoother , actually the engine don't support 2 cores ,or 4 or 3 or n , tahts why it takes so much of ur proc resources cause it use it as one , so its recomended to use 1 core , its like running a machine that supports only 250 w with 500 w so useless.

That was one question i asked, seems you can force q3 to run through one processor by using processor affinity, right click on service you want to assign to run through a specific core.

I was wondering if running pb through one core and q3engine through another would make for a better game.

Im not sure why you would want to do this with Q3. With your rig you should be able to run quake to the max in every aspect without any slowdown. Great idea however for more cpu intense games. I hope you get the performance boost your looking for.

Yeah your right, but i was figuring that chucking all other processes (pb, antivirus etc) to one cpu, and q3 running solely on the other, might give me a few more millisecs in my favour. It's like, every millisecond counts, they all add up
