between the last 1.3.x (1.3.2 i think) and 1.4 there are some things changes .. and some gliches may appear ... but i strongly suggest the 1.3.2 its stable and the methods that this website are using are compatible 98%. for 1.4 dunno maybe 60~70% ?
about the GET polling yes i recomand using comet-javascript style.. ive said it before.. is much better!
also another thing about the shoutbox .. we should have a 1 active shoutbox only per session+tab this can be done by sending the userid+tab to the server when connection starts and ending all other connections from the user .. a message will appear like ("shoutbox inactive in this tab
click here to active this tab")
i'll make a demo somewhere about this ... this is for the comet ... also the comet-way can provide to the website very clear if an user is online or not .. and when was the last time he was seen online.
check Comet with classic AJAX : litte chat demo or the sources
you can implement comet otherways also.. it's used on the web-chats like those fancy irc webchats

Commited some usability updates while working on the bigger fishes.
Fixed some issues with rich-edit enable/disable loosing the updates when preview/save. Also it can be disabled by default in your profile.
Some missing post settings should be visible again, like poll options or sticky settings.
Fixed some import issues with the old phpBB posts. This should fix the "Mark as read" problems.

The request should not have an high impact on CPU usage, however, the actual replacement/traversing thru the DOM can be heavy depending on the used browser.
But 10% is pretty high, have added an option to disable the autorefresh into your profiles.
Will look into the Comet technique for the actual chat module, but I don't think this is really usefull for the shoutbox.

the poll log message isn't saved on the field.
EDIT:
I have finally got what was provoquing a 3% packet loss on all servers.
This had made me crazy.
It's for sure caused by e+ website's auto-update.
It's nice to add something to disable it, but well I don't wanna disable it except when I play.
What I propose is to disable it temporarly when we click on an host's ip to play through spider.
Andwhen we are done with game, a click to any link reactivate it.
to sum up, if I click on this ( 193.200.57.36:27960 ) it disables temporarly ajax auto-update.
Wanna avoid seeying mow, skull & co

Bug : when editing a pool the votes are removed and players can't vote again.

bug : bgcolor of players names are removed on posts that changes a lot the color especially when it's something like ^0^4Test => only black is left in the post.
