Every day, I create a server in the multiple player thing and fight 4 xaero bots. To day some1 connected! I ran a server and played on the same pc as the server ran on and dont have enaugh ram so it lagged. When the person came in, there ping was like 136 and they were from somewere near europe, I am in the US. When I do it that way there isnt any lag from not having eaugh RAM, is there a way 2 keep it up when I quit out of the game, besides running 1 with a console?

No, I want 2 be able 2 run a server like this, load quake, Multiple player, CREATE. Can I quit out of my server that is run that way and make it still be on?

I only have 128megs of RAM, I dont think I can run a server using a consle and that crap, Ive done it before, it just lagged really bad when I play on the same pc the server is on. Im not getting another pc 2 play on, and I might get more RAM if its not that expensive.

sorry that i say this, but ur pc is not a good place for a gameserver,
even ur connection is not good for a gameserver. the most servers u see
in x+ do not run on a home pc machine, the most servers are running on
a big serverplatform with 100 mb/s connections, and the servers itself are
powerfull machines.

with ur pc, i think, ur homepc-server would begin to lag with less than 3
players on it.

ir u wanna run a gameserver seriously, search a offer via google for
professional gameservers.

Im planning on getting 512megs of RAM. Also I have a Cable Modem with 1meg up and 3megs down I think, It isnt bad, Some1 I know has a server with a Cable Modem connection, 1gig of RAM and can Have 20 people in it without a lag. If he can run an un-lagged server with a Cable Modem, 20 people, 1gig of RAM, Than y cant I run 1 with 512megs of RAM and like 10 - 15 people in it? My pc/connection can have 12 people on it with only 128megs of RAM,(It only lags when I play on it because my PC cant run a server and Quake with the RAM i have) That would be Around 15 - 18 people on it with 512megs of RAM.

you can setup an server for 8 players its just the upload wath are important and yes you need more memmory as you play on the same machine better make an network at home and play on other machine so you can up till 10 players and set /sv_maxrate 8000

Im confused, u know how u need 512megs of RAM 2 play on the same pc?
Look at this,

Windows Me = 90megs of RAM
Quake 3 server = 32megs of RAM(I think)
Quake 3 Arena = at least 64megs of RAM
TOTAL = 186megs of RAM

If that is the only things running (sometimes when I dont run quake I go on the internet and listen 2 music, can I still do that) Could i run a server with 256megs of RAM (that would leave 70megs left when Windows is running, a server is up, and Quake 3 arena is up)?

If 256megs can run a server for me, that would leave me with 134megs of RAM when quake 3 Arena isnt running so it wouldnt lag when I play music and go on the internet, right?

Also if i can run a server with 256megs of RAM because I dont have windows XP, (Me = 90megs of RAM XP = 120 or 128) and i set sv_maxRATE 2 8000 how much people can I have on my server?
